How
To Develop a Successful Business By Being Unique
What
makes a new business work? Of course there are strict rules in a
professional and practical sense that can make one work (as in a
franchise), but what about being original? Sometimes
new business
ideas that work really well for one person, often
simply don't for another. The reason usually stems from the same reason
one person is successful with their own personality whilst another
person, trying to be the same, looks all wrong.
Often
people (especially young adults) try to be the same as the people they
admire. But they usually grow out of this as their personality matures
and they develop their own sense of self. Usually when people copy other
people and try to be like them it doesn't work somehow. There's
something not quite right or natural about it. To be a truly confident
person you have to feel at ease with your own character, and develop
your own personality. As your business is a part of you, it also should
be unique. Look inside yourself for creativity that comes natural, easy,
and seems discernible to you.
We
all have distinctive individual characteristics that make us who we are.
People that succeed usually believe in themselves and focus in on their
own uniqueness rather than trying to be like others. Confidence comes
from feeling at ease and liking your own developed characteristics. The
same is just as true with your business. You can often be much more
successful when developing your own distinctiveness rather than
attempting to replicate other peoples successes.
Only
follow what feels natural and right and seems to come easy from within
yourself. You may not realize it, but just because your way of doing
things comes really easy to you, it doesn't necessarily mean that it
comes easy to other people. You have your own strengths, discover them
and develop them. Don't automatically assume other peoples way of doing
things is the correct way. It may be for them, but that doesn't mean it
will work for you. Life is all about creation. We all have our own
creative instincts inside us waiting to be expressed. Find what yours
are by looking within yourself rather than outwardly. Look for what YOU
are good at, or you would like to see in your business. Don't simply try
to copy what other people are good at, or what they do.
Please understand, I'm not saying that you shouldn't be influenced. On
the contrary, never stop watching analyzing and learning from other
peoples businesses. Do try out what seems to work for others, but do it
in your own way. Always allow yourself to be influenced by things you
like and admire about your competitors work, efforts and creativity. But
there's a big difference between influence and downright copying. Simply
mimicking other peoples initiatives rarely looks or feels natural - even
if done accurately. However influence is not usually so obvious but
instead moulds itself into the nature of your own creativity.
There
is no limit to true originality. Copycat businesses often have a hard
time trying to compete with the original (unless they are actually a
part of that original as in a franchise operation). However, if you can
be truly creative, rather than just competitive, you may well find you
flourish in that originality.
Let
the seed grow that starts as a spark of inspiration. We've all heard the
famous saying; "from the tiny acorn, the mighty oak tree grows", or
something similar. The acorn is your spark of inspiration. It's in your
quiet moments, when you are relaxed and calm that creativity tends to
flow. Seek out peaceful relaxed conditions. Slow your thoughts down and
focus.
All
successful businesses start with someone being inspired and motivated by
a single inspirational thought. True creativity seems to develop a life
of its own. Once established firmly in your mind, just LET it grow.
Sure, you'll have to keep it well watered and nourished or else it will
die. Think of the water it needs as being your on-going effort and
activity, and the nourishment your continued mental focus. Keep this up,
and sooner or later your business can become a giant.
