Effective Search Engine Optimization

How Search Engine Optimization Works!

Visitors to your website will not always arrive at your web site through the index, or home page. If you're doing it right they should find your web site through inner pages too.

Each page should be optimized for a different search phrase, so your visitors can and will arrive at any page that gets a high ranking. Each page is an entry to your web site.

Here is an important point. People soon learn that to type in a single search word is too broad in scope and needs to be narrowed down by typing in something more specific.

For example, using the word "car" will bring up far too many unspecific results. However the phrase "collectors vintage cars" will provide much better results.

So make sure your pages are optimized for specific but popular search phrases that are very relevant to the content.  This way your visitors will be far, far more likely to hang around your web site because it is exactly what they were looking for. You should then hold your good position in search engines as your link proves itself to be popular in reality (based on how the search engines see visitors behaving when they send them your way).

By optimizing each page correctly, all become potential entry pages to your entire site (i.e. an entry point for visitors). I am not talking about "doorway" pages here. These are disliked by search engines because they are a term used to mean pages that are simply keyword stuffed. Search engines have to battle against many Webmasters spamming their index by creating pages that have lots of keywords stuffed all over, but not really supplying quality or even relevant content. For this reason they don't like, or may even condemn any pages designed specifically for search engine ranking.

My advice is be sensible, and don't add anything that would look out of place to a human being reading that page. You will not get into trouble so long as you optimize sensibly for words that are relevant and will provide content of value to visitors. But if you try placing words or phrases in unnecessary places all over the page you could easily get penalized or even banned. Search engines are very sophisticated these days and you will get found out sooner or later.

But even when you do it right, unfortunately each search engine ranks pages according to different criteria (algorithms); therefore what works well in one may not work as well in others.

The best service for helping you find popular keywords that people may be using in their tens of thousands every day is WordTracker. When you do obtain a good placement for these terms your website, at least in terms of visitors, is likely to be very successful.

Your goal therefore is clear; you must optimize each page for a popular search term actually being used by thousands of surfers every day. The next page tells you the best way to do this.
